UPSC conducts competitive examinations to select candidates for civil services. Similarly, SSC (Staff Selection Commission) is responsible for filling group B & C cadre posts in central govt. ministries/departments.
Although approximately 9.7 lakh candidates applied only 6.1 lakh appeared for the combined graduate level examination 2011 (Tier I)
80,000 cleared the test, possessed minimum cutoffs & became eligible to sit for Tier –II exams
After the selection processes were completed, around 12,500 were finally posted across various governmental agencies/depts./offices & ministries.
SSC`s combined graduate level exam 2012 drew more applications than 2011 which saw 9.6 lakh aspirants appearing for the preliminary tests in July month.
The results announced few months later had 1,21,307 candidates qualifying for CGL Tier II stage. Comparing with previous year, this number is huge. |
While tier II results have also been published, Staff Selection Commission has released(.pdf) a detailed list of 19060 vacancies for CGL 2012 passouts across govt.ministry, departments & organisations.

The following year could see more openings in government sector due to charting & implementation of new govt. projects.
A statement by union minister who stated that over 2 crore governmental jobs are to be filled soon is worth mentioning here.
So there is high possibility for appointments through combined graduate level 2013 exam to touch similar levels.
The commission has activated online application links for CGL 2013.Since the Tier I exam dates are also notified, these statistics could shed some light on expected list of jobs in central government through SSC CGL 2013 exams.
