Filling the SSC CGL Post Preferences seems to be a big task for many aspirants while registering for Combined Graduate Level exam 2017.All those who are looking for central govt jobs in India, SSC CGL 2017 Exam is an important test to qualify.With an age limit prescribed, there is confusion over SSC CGL posts for candidates above 27 years.
The SSC CGL 2017 notification has very clearly specified the eligibility conditions for all 30 posts.According to it, candidates fulfilling the below criteria can apply:
- Age to be calculated as on Aug 1, 2017 (age relaxed for OBC,SC,ST, PH, Widows, Divorced women etc)
- Must have completed graduation (degree) as on August 1, 2017
A total of 3800 vacancies (temporarily) are created for qualifiers of SSC CGL 2017 recruitment exam.Since they are categorised under Groups A, B, C and D,there exists a different set of qualification and age limit.

SSC CGL Posts for Age within 27 years
All posts under Group A, B, C & D come under this category.So applicants with age below 27 years are eligible to apply for all the 30 posts given in SSC CGL notification.
Age relaxation is applicable for candidates who belong to reserved categories.For OBC – 3 yrs, SC/ST – 5 yrs, PH – 10 yrs.
I am SC/ ST & 29 years old. Can I apply for IT Tax Assistant post?
Yes.Although the max age for assistant is 27, since you are SC/ST candidate – you are eligible to apply.
Likewise, OBC candidates upto 30 years are also allowed to apply for all SSC CGL vacancies.
SSC CGL Posts for Above 27 years
If you are a unreserved/ general category & aged above 27 years, then you cannot apply for Group D posts.
Candidates who fall in this age bracket are eligible for the following Group A, B & C list of positions:
1) Assistant Audit Officer
2) Assistant Accounts Officer
3) Assistant Section Officer
4) Assistant/ Superintendent
5) Inspector of Income Tax
6) Assistant Enforcement Officer
7) Sub Inspector
8) Junior Statistical Officer
9) Assistant
Age relaxations: Applicants of OBC above 30 yrs, SC/ST above 32 yrs & PH above 37 yrs can apply for the above 5 posts.

SSC CGL Posts for Above 30 years
General/ unreserved category candidates, above 30 years of age, are NOT eligible to apply for any positions in SSC CGL 2017.
But, if you belong to OBC or SC or ST or Physically challenged category, you can make use of age relaxations and apply for certain groups.
Final year students are eligible for SSC CGL or Not?
Final year/ semester candidates are permitted to apply for SSC CGL 2016 exam.
But they must be able to submit some proof that the result of the final exam was declared on or before August 1, 2016 at the time of document verification.
If your results are to be released only after August 1, you may register & appear for the CGL exam but will rejected during the verification of documents.
Age Limit for Widows & Divorced Women
SSC is lending a helping hand for lades who are widows, divorced & not remarried by providing them with an opportunity to work for central government.
The maximum age is extended upto 35 years (general), 38yrs (OBC) & 40 yrs (SC/ST) for women who belong to ‘Widows/ Divorced Women/ Women judicially separated and who are not remarried’ category.
Using this relaxation, they can apply for all posts in Group A, B, C & D.
