Bank exams are similar to competitive exams in the number of sections, syllabus & the type of questions asked. While competitive exams have papers on Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem solving; bank exams tests your knowledge in General awareness & English too.
Although the tests differ for Probationary officers and Clerks, the pattern/ blueprint is mostly same. For all those attending banking exams for the first time, here is a sketch of the question paper. All public sector banks follow similar test pattern for recruitment of Clerk & PO posts.

The descriptive test or english language test is usually conducted for 45 – 60 mins. The process might look complex & time consuming, but with the government planning common test for bank jobs, hope prevails.
Papers: The following are some of the common papers in objective examination,
- Test of Reasoning & Numerical Aptitude
- Test of English Language

Banks also have a descriptive test, which is conducted to check your knowledge in english. This descriptive exam has a duration of 60 mins & is conducted for 100 marks, but the marks are not considered for final selection.
Cut-off: Candidates scoring above a minimum cut-off are ranked based on their marks in Objective test & merit list is prepared with the candidate scoring the highest mark at the top.The shortlisted are then called for Group Discussion or Interview.
