Pravasi Rahat Mitra App launched by UP Government
The Uttar Pradesh Government has launched an app called ‘Pravasi Rahat Mitra’ App for migrant workers who are returning to the state, from different parts of country.
- The app is designed to list the government schemes and its benefits to the migrant workers
- It also has features to monitor their health apart from helping them find jobs and livelihood.
The app is developed by the State Revenue Department in collaboration with United Nation Development Programme.
DRDO develops UV device to sanitise electronic gadgets, papers & currency notes
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) lab has developed an automated UV device to sanitise electronic gadgets, papers and currency notes.
- DRUVS (Defence Research Ultraviolet Sanitiser) gives a 360-degree exposure of ultraviolet rays to objects placed inside the cabinet.
- The system goes in sleep mode, after the sanitisation is complete with no need of operator to wait or stand near the device.
- DRUVS has been designed to sanitise mobile phones, iPads, laptops, currency notes, cheque leafs, challans, passbooks, paper and envelopes.
It is developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat lab and operates on contactless mode, which is very important to contain the spread of the virus.
Hr 6819: Black Hole Closest To Earth Discovered By Astronomers
Astronomers from the European Southern Observatory (ESO) have spotted a black hole that is closet to planet Earth.
- HR 6819, also known as HD 167128 or QV Telescopii, is a triple star system in the southern constellation of Telescopium. It is 1120 light years from the Sun.
- Astronomers were able to spot only a couple of dozen black holes in our galaxy, the Milky Way.
A May 2020 study reported it to contain a black hole, making it the closest known black hole, and the first one located in a stellar system visible to the naked eye.
FM Nirmala Sitharaman Inaugurated Rupee Dollar Derivatives Trading On BSE
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman virtually launched INR-USD (Rupee-Dollar) Futures and Options contracts on the two International Exchanges, BSE’s India INX and NSE’s NSE-IFSC, at GIFT International Financial Services Centre in Gandhinagar.
- The derivative pair is expected to attract more participants to the IFSC and make India INX a leading centre for raising capital for issuers across the globe.
- The trading will be available 22 hours across all time zones for all global participants from GIFT IFSC.
Trading of INR-USD futures and options is expected to enable participants to hedge, trade and settle in USD with market rules and ecosystem at GIFT City IFSC.

Smallpox eradication’s 40th anniversary: Commemorative stamp released by WHO & UN’s postal agency
The WHO and the UN’s postal agency have released a commemorative postage stamp on the 40th anniversary of the eradication of smallpox
- In May 1980, the 33rd World Health Assembly officially declared that the world and all its peoples have won freedom from smallpox.
- The stamp is a recognition to the solidarity shown by countries globally in fighting smallpox and honours millions of people working together, from world leaders and international organisations to rural doctors and community health workers, to eradicate smallpox.

Cooperative banks come under SARFAESI Act: Supreme Court
The Supreme Court (SC) brought cooperative banks under the Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Act of 2002 (Sarfaesi Act)
- A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra ruled that the Sarfaesi Act applies to cooperative banks as well.
- Under Sarfaesi Act, the secured creditors can take possession of the assets of a borrower who fails to pay dues within 60 days of demanding repayment.
There were 1,551 urban cooperative banks as on 31 March 2018, and 96,612 rural cooperative banks as on 31 March 2017, according to an RBI report.
Integrated Battle Group roll out delayed due to Covid-19: Army Chief
Army Chief Gen MM Naravane has said that a comprehensive “test-bedding” of the Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs) was concluded but its roll out has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
- The IBGs, were planned to be introduced by Army as part of a far reaching revamp of its war fighting capability, particularly along the borders with China and Pakistan.
- It would comprise a mix of infantry, artillery, air defence, tanks and logistics units that will help it carry out swift strikes in case of a war.
Each IBG will comprise of around 5,000 troops and would be headed by a Major General.
Tokyo Olympics will be cancelled if pandemic not over by 2021: Games chief
The postponed Tokyo Olympics will be cancelled if the coronavirus pandemic isn’t brought under control by next year, said the Tokyo 2020 organising committee president Yoshiro Mori.
- The Tokyo Olympics 2020 was originally scheduled to take place between 24 July and 9 August 2020,
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was rescheduled for 23 July to 8 August 2021.If the virus is not brought under control by July 2021, the games might be cancelled.
Japan is currently reeling under emergency amid a rapid increase of infections throughout the country, where hospitals are overburdened.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) forms committee to prepare procedure to resume training post lockdown
Sports Authority of India (SAI) has formed a committee to prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to resume training in all SAI Centres in all sporting disciplines after the lockdown is lifted, said sports minister Kiren Rijiju
- The SOPs will have detailed guidelines to be followed on entry norms, santization guidelines, precautions to be taken in common areas and by athletes while travelling to and from the centre.
- The six-member panel will be headed by SAI secretary Rohit Bharadwaj and will have CEO Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Rajesh Rajagopalan, Executive Director (Operations) SS Roy, SS Sarla, Col BK Nayak and Assistant Director TOPS Sachin K as members.
All trainings across SAI Centres had been suspended in view of the on-going covid19 pandemic.
