FCI Exam Pattern
Let us look at the written test in detail before moving to know about the books.I thought of explaining the exam structure in Q & A format.These should help you understand better.
Q: Is it an online test?
A: No.This is NOT a computer based online exam.Candidates will have to answer only on OMR sheet that has to be filled in with blue/ black ball point pen only
Q: How many papers should I write?
A: There are 4 papers in total but its not necessary for everyone to write all the four.To know which paper you need to write, see below:
- Paper I for AG-III (General) & AG-III (Depot)
- Paper I & II for Junior Engineer (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical) & AG – III (Accounts & Technical)
- Paper III for Typist (Hindi)
- Paper III & IV for AG II (Hindi)
All the papers are said to be conducted on a single day itself.
Q: What is the exam syllabus?
A: Since there are different papers for each post, the test sections also differ.Take a look at the image:
Each paper will have a total of 120 objective type questions which have to be answered in 90 minutes.While you will be awarded 1 mark for each correct answer, there could be a negative mark of 0.25 for wrong answer.

If you had applied for AG III (accounts), then will have to appear for Paper I & II.Hence this book covers the necessary stuff for both the papers.

Paper II is intended to assess your specific technical knowledge in commerce.Since the FCI notification particularly states that questions would be mostly related to general accounting & finance, this guide has emphasized on these areas.

Technical
The book for technical cadre post exam also contains the required parts for Paper I & II.
Since the applications for AG III (technical) were invited from candidates with science background, Paper II will have multiple choice questions from Biological sciences subject.
