What is IBPS PO Prelims & Syllabus?

IBPS PO Prelims is the 1st exam that all applicants need to write. It is only a qualifying test & your marks in it wont be considered for final selection.

It is very likely that the IBPS PO syllabus shall be similar to the SBI PO prelims held in July. The highlight of prelims exam pattern is:

  • Total marks: 100
  • 1 hour time limit
  • 100 questions from Quantitative Aptitude, English & Reasoning ability

Cutoffs on each section & total score will be fixed by IBPS based on the performance of all candidates in prelims. So you need to secure above those two cutoffs in order to qualify for mains.

  • Modern Math – Probability; Permutations & Combinations
  • Geometry – Mensuration (questions about area, perimeter and volume)
  • Quadratic Equations –  2 quadratic equations are given asking you to compare the magnitudes of x & y
  • DI – Data Interpretation & Data sufficiency

Reasoning: The expected chapters in this section are given below from which 35 questions could be asked.:

While each correct answer fetches you 1 mark, the level of questions would only be of easy to moderate level.

Note: In recent years, questions from Analytical Reasoning have increased in bank prelims exam while the focus is less on on Syllogism, Coding-Decoding etc.

English: This section will contain 30 questions from the following areas:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Grammar
  • Parajumbles

IBPS PO Study Plan

Based on the syllabus and the importance of topics (expected number of questions), – a 8 week study plan has been created which would make yourself ready within the next 60 days.

How to read the color codes: Colors on topics denote the expected no. of questions that could be asked in that specific section.

The no. of hours specified under topics in the table is for a week & not for a day.

The plan is created assuming 25% of the time for learning and 75% for practice. So stick to the study plan to crack IBPS PO prelims.

For example: When you see 8 hours being marked for a set of topics, it means we you must spend 2 hours in learning the concepts and 6 hours in practicing them.

To practice, we recommend Oliveboard`s online mock tests for Rs.499Click here to buy them.

You can refer to the plan below or if you want to create a more personalized plan, you can use Oliveboard’s Study Planner & save your plan.Click here to create your own personal plan.

The plan also suggests you spend at least 1 hour (or more) after each mock test on analyzing your mistakes & seeing how to improve than blindly taking as many tests as possible.

Remember: It is what you do between mock tests that will determine your improvement, not how many tests you attempt. To take a Free Mock Test in the new IBPS PO prelims pattern, click here

So the final weeks should be entirely allotted only for practicing/ revisions.

We believe the above syllabus & study plans will help you in managing that time effectively to crack the IBPS PO 2016 exams.
