IBPS SO 2016 IT Officer Exam Review, Analysis & Cutoffs

The IBPS SO IT Officer Exam (Specialist Officer V) was conducted on February 14.It is being held to select candidates for IT officer vacancies in public sector banks of India.Among all the posts available under specialist officer cadre, this is one of the most registered by candidates.As the tests are over, here is the IBPS IT Officer Exam Review.

The IBPS SO V 2015 is much like the PO exam, wherein there is Professional Knowledge section instead of General Awareness.So preparing for the IT officer exams wouldnt have been hard for many.

IT Officer Exam Review

It was not a surprise to see large emphasis given to Professional knoweldge section compared to other papers.The table below shall help you get an overview of the difficulty level of the IBPS IT Officer Exam 2016.

Reasoning: Questions in this section were between easy – moderate & from expected chapters only.

Topics: Syllogism, Input Output, Arrangements, Coding/Decoding, Inequality, Data Sufficiency & Puzzles

If you had attended above 28, it can be termed as safe attempts.

Quantitative Aptitude: 50 problems with 1 mark awarded for each correct answer in this section.Many have said that QA was quite easy, but lack of time.

Topics: Data Interpretation, Number series, Quadratic Equation, Data Sufficiency, Simple/ COmpound Interest, Averages, Partnership, Ratios etc.,

Good number of attempts: Above 25

English Language: As usual, English was one section that could make or break anyone`s chances.This time, the questions in this part were moderate.

Topics: Sentence correction, Reading Comprehension, Cloze test, Parajumbles, Fill in the blanks, Error spotting etc.,

Attempts: 28 or above can be classified as a safe number.

Professional Knowledge: This was the highlight of the entire exam.Hence it had a total of 50 questions with each carrying 1.5 marks.

Topics: Networks, Operating system, Database management, Server Protocols, OSI model, Computer hardware, Data Structures,Programming & Basics of Java, Linux etc.,

All those who had prepared well in IT concepts found PK of moderate level of difficulty. Others from a different field of study were not satisfied with their performance because of confusing questions.

Safe number of attempts in Professional Knowledge would be above 35

Final Analysis & Cutoffs

The IBPS SO V IT Officer exam was not too hard like the PO exam but at the same time, it was also not very easy.

There were also some individuals who complained about tricky problems especially in Quantitative aptitude & Professional knowledge.

With 200 questions to attend in 120 minutes, it was a test for candidates who were able to allot time in answering as many questions possible with maximum accuracy.

The overall number of attempts that can be expected to be in safe zone is 125+

Cutoffs: Last year, the IBPS IT Officer Cutoffs were:

  • GEN: 104
  • OBC: 98
  • SC: 90
  • ST: 77
