Just before the festive season starts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has delivered a happy news for millions of govt job aspirants in India.
From January 1, 2016 there will be no Interviews for recruitment to central government jobs falling under Group B, C & D. This change in the selection process was informed to the nation by the PM himself, during his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
For the past few years, we are seeing a renewed interest among Indian youth to become bank or government employees.Due to this shift in mindset, whenever a new job vacancy is posted by any govt. department, lakhs of applications are being received.
‘Cannot Judge a Person in few Minutes’
In his monthly address ‘Mann Ki Baat’ held on Sunday, the prime minister recalled his independence day speech where he suggested to end the practice of holding interviews for lower cadre positions in govt sector as it facilitated corruption.
“I want to announce that there will not be any interviews for non-gazette entry of group B, C and D in central government. This will be implemented from January 1, 2016 ”, he said proudly.
“This change will eliminate corruption at lower levels as people run for sifarish (recommendation) after getting interview calls. The abolition of interview will particularly help the poor who would normally fall prey to brokers.”
“Interview may be conducted only for jobs where personality or appearance is important”, Modi said.
To add more strength to this modification, he went to say, “I have never heard of a physcologist who can evaluate a person during an interview of one to two minutes.”
Which Govt. Jobs wont have Interview?
There are many departments & organizations that come under the direct control of Govt. of India such as Finance, External affairs, Security etc.,
To fill vacancies under Group B, C & D in these offices, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exams. The selected candidates become eligible for the following list of jobs:
Group B: – Assistants (in Ministry of Railway, External affairs, Intelligence bureau, Central Vigilance Commission, Central Secretariat Service, Dept of Revenue, Enforcement directorate) – Inspector (Income tax, Excise dept. & Central bureau of narcotics) – Sub inspectors at NIA, CBI, – Divisional accountant at offices under CAG – Statistical investigator. – Compiler
Group C: Auditor, Accountant, Upper division clerk, Tax assistant, Compiler etc.,
With no interview process for the above job posts, appointment for these central govt jobs would be purely based on merit (exact scores).
Will Bank Jobs have Interviews?
We know this question will be in the minds of bank job aspirants as many individuals who appear for SSC exams also prepare for bank exams.
The prime minister has clearly said that the interviews are to be scrapped for central govt jobs that are categorized as group B, C & D.There was no mention about bank jobs in his speech.
Moreover, candidates who wish to work in a banking organizations must deal with customers on a daily basis.
So interviews are the only way to test a person`s personality & get to know whether he/she can handle stress, knows about the banking sector, terms used etc.,
Above all, public sector banks have a separate recruitment process which is taken care by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS).They already have only simplified hiring procedure involving a written test & common interviews.
It means bank job interviews will continue as usual (until IBPS decides to abolish it)
What do you think – should banking interviews also be removed & stick only with exam scores for appointment? Say your thoughts in comments!
