Railway Recruitment 2016: Detailed Syllabus & Exam Pattern

What is the syllabus of RRB Railway Recruitment 2016 exam – is the biggest question among all the applicants.Although recruitments in Indian railways are a regular affair, not every year they announce 18,000 jobs.With so many vacancies in Asia`s largest public sector enterprise, we know everyone would be very eager to crack the RRB exam.For all such people, we are publishing the detailed syllabus of RRB railways recruitment exam.

Railway Exam 2016 Pattern

The railway recruitment 2016 exam pattern is very straight forward.All candidates have to appear only for 1 common Computer Based Test (CBT), which is nothing but an online test.

The written test shall include these papers:

For each wrong answer, negative mark of 0.33 would be reduced.You would be awarded 1 mark for every correct answer.

There are no section-wise cutoffs & candidates have to just secure the necessary cutoff on their total scores only.

The selection process differs for few jobs announced in this NTPC recruitment.As per it,

  • Online exam (CBT) & Document verification – Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Apprentice, ECRC & Goods Guard
  • Online exam (CBT), Typing test & Document verification – Junior Accounts Assistant, Senior Cierk, Senior Time Keeper
  • Online exam (CBT), Aptitude test & Document verification – Assistant Station Master & Traffic Assistant.
You need not appear for any other written exams apart from the common online test that is to be conducted during the months of March – May 2016.

Syllabus & Topics to Read

To know what questions could be asked in those papers, one must be clear about the syllabus.

General Intelligence & Reasoning: This is the normal reasoning that you would encounter in any competitive exams.Expect 30-35 questions to be asked in this part.

  • Cube & Dices
  • Direction test
  • Blood relations
  • Classification
  • Statement/ Conclusion
  • Pie charts, Venn diagrams etc.,

These are the chapters from which questions are frequently asked.It wont contain high level reasoning problems like the ones that you attend in banking exams.

Arithmetic: It is same as numerical ability covering topics from basic mathematics only.This section also would contain around 25 -30 questions for you to answer.

Don’t get worried on the number of lessons. Most of which can be answered by using formulas.So learn the concept & few shortcuts to answer these arithmetic questions in short time.

General Awareness: There will be 40-45 questions in this section alone, which is nearly 40% of the total paper.Take a look at the topics you need to prepare:

  • Indian History
  • India & State Geography
  • Indian Constitution & Polity
  • Books & Authors
  • Economy & Finance
  • Basic Computers
  • Abbreviations (full form of words)
  • General Science (Physics,Chemistry, Biology)
  • Traditional/ Static GK (longest, shortest, highest, largest, smallest, etc.,)
  • Current Affairs (just a few)

The GK section can be easiest to score if you can answer questions from the above chapters.So get a good general knowledge book that would touch all the topics given above.
