The main reason behind renewed demand for bank jobs in India is the huge number of vacancies.Public sector bank recruitments have been leading the pack especially for the last couple of years.Industry experts & analysts expect the hiring activity to continue for few more years.Adding substance to such claims is the latest news of Indian government hoping PSB`s to create over 63200 bank jobs in 2012-13.
Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has been designated by the govt. to conduct examinations & publish results on behalf of 20 PSBs.
But the country largest bank, SBI & its 6 associates does not participate in this procedure and continues with its own recruitment drive.
63000 to be recruited
On November 15 Finance Minister Shri.P.Chidambaram met the heads of public sector banks to review their financial performance.
At the press conference, he shared some important details about the upcoming recruitments in govt. owned banks.Here are some highlights from his speech,
- At the end of last financial year, there were 84,489 vacancies in total
- Of this, 63200 posts would be filled this fin.yr (within March 2013)
It has to be noted that approx. 22,000 officer seats were advertised across 19 banks till August for qualifiers of IBPS CWE 2011.
Similarly PSU banks shall hire 22000 PO & 20000 clerical level staff through common exam 2012 passouts. |
SBI Recruitments in 2013
Those waiting to get into state bank of india group can rejoice because the minister also divulged – ‘A third of these openings will be in SBI’
So around 21,000 jobs (20k clerks & 1200 officers) are up for grabs in State bank & the selection process shall begin before March 2013 as expected.(see SBI to recruit 20000)
Call for youth
The response for banking exams is already on a high with lakhs of applications being sent for few thousand jobs.Now, Chidambaram also has pitched for taking up banking as a career citing ‘huge opportunities’.
“It is a very attractive career.Young men and women should take advantage of it”, he added.
