The tentative list of SSC CGL 2016 vacancies has been released recently giving an insight into the number of jobs that would be available for qualifiers of the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam held in the year 2016.Now, candidates who had chosen the respective posts can look forward to the number of openings in their departments.
The Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC CGL exam ever year to fill-up vacancies in Group B & C cadre in the central government departments and offices.
Candidates have to submit their post preferences at the time of registration which will be considered for final appointments, after qualifying in Tier I, II & III exams.
In any recruitment, the number of vacancies are disclosed at the time of notification.But in SSC CGL, the total posts are not revealed while inviting applications for exams.
Since many different govt departments require group B & C employees, they inform about the vacancy positions to SSC regularly.The commission then compiles the data & places it on their website before the next exam is conducted.
SSC CGL 2016 vacancies increased: As per the latest vacancy list published by SSC, a total of 10661 jobs are available for candidates.
Note: This is the final and updated compilation as on August 2017, released by the commission which seems to be an increase from the earlier lists.

Based on the final list of SSC CGL 2016 vacancies, here are few important points about the top departments in central government which recruit in large numbers, every year.
– DOPT has 407 vacancies for Assistant Section Officer post
– Comptroller and auditor general (CAG) has 1000 vacancies for Assistant Audit Officer Group ‘B’
– Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has 505 vacancies for Inspector Of Income Tax posts
– Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has 855 vacancies for Inspector posts
– Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has 666 openings for Junior Statistical Officer position
– Offices under Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) have 3125 auditor posts
– 1114 & 622 Tax Assistant posts are created in CBDT and CBEC respectively.
