The Indian Audit & Accounts department is the organization responsible for auditing the accounts of Central & State governments and Public sector companies.

AAO`s will help the Audit Officer/ Sr. Audit officer in conducting audits (financial, performance, compliance) of a specific department.Many a times, the assistant audit officer will be in charge of taking decisions at the section level  & report it to higher officials.

Although it is the highest paid job (grade pay of Rs.4800) among the SSC CGL posts, there will be only limited vacancies.The job profile of Assistant Audit Officer may also involve some travelling during the inspection.

Inspector (Central Excise) [CBEC] – High no. of vacancies is allotted every year for this post due to the indirect revenue that this department brings for the government.

The duty of this person is to Inspect the taxes/ returns filed by companies, verify the correctness of claims submitted, process the data, maintain records etc., Some field visits may be necessary but overall, it is highly respected job among business owners & public.

Assistant [Other Ministries/Departments/ Organisations] – There are few other organizations under Govt. of India such as Dept. of Personnel & Training , Parliamentary Affairs, Election Commission etc., where these assistants would be posted. Most probably the work location shall be Delhi.

Sub Inspectors [Central Bureau of Investigation] – CBI doesn’t require any introduction as it is one of the most respected organization in India & a SI also commands an equal amount of respect.

This job is similar to that of state police but since CBI is under central govt. , they have more powers to investigate anti-corruption cases and other conventional crimes.

The work is quite challenging and should be able to perform under pressure.Physical training would also be given.

Senior Secretariat Assistant [Central Govt. Offices/Ministries other than CSCS cadres] – The is also a pure desk oriented job only.The duties of an SSA are to check the stated facts; point out any mistakes or incorrect statement of the facts; draw attention to previous cases or Rules and Regulations on the subject;

Also they have to clearly bring out the the question under consideration and suggest a course of action, wherever possible. 99%, these posts exist only in Delhi.

Tax Assistant [CBEC & CBDT]

CBDT – Central Board Of Direct Taxation | CBEC – Central Board of Excise and Customs

The duties of Tax Assistants (TA) in both these boards are more like that of a clerical grade officer.

The TA`s are supposed to asses, verify, modify any data related to taxes of an individual or business concern (incase of CBDT).

Incase of CBEC, similar work is done for goods & services.Along with these, they may also be engaged in regular administrative work & providing support to their higher officers.

Of the two organizations, Tax Assistant in CBEC normally has huge no. of vacancies in major Indian cities where there is a port or airport also called as CX zones.
